Cracked and shattered phone screens may be a common problem, but they don't have to be inevitable — or so Motorola says. The company's new Moto X Force has a "shatterproof" screen encased in super-resilient plastic. It's the international version of the recently announced Verizon-exclusive Droid Turbo 2.

To demonstrate the device's durability, Motorola released a video of its president, Rick Osterloh, wordlessly dropping an iPhone 6S, a Galaxy S6, and then a Moto X Force onto a hard-looking bit of stone tile. Naturally, the Apple and Samsung phones cracked (the flagship phones from those companies aren't known for taking falls well), but the Force is unharmed. Assuming there was no editing trickery, it's a fairly convincing little show.
The rest of the stats are high-end stuff: a 5.4-inch quad-HD screen, lots of RAM and a 2 GHz processor, extra-large battery, 21-megapixel camera and a water-resistant coating. Unfortunately, hands-ons by reviewers suggest that the shatter-resistant coating has the effect of muting the colors of the screen.
The Moto X Force won't be available in the US, at least for now, as Verizon has the local rights to selling the handset as the Droid Turbo 2 - which the carrier will make available on Friday.
