A Chinese ship on Saturday reached the area in the southern Indian Ocean where a plane spotted a floating object the previous day but initially found nothing, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Five military planes spotted “multiple objects of various colors” during Friday’s search for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, authorities said.

A New Zealand military plane spotted an object white or light in color and a fishing buoy in the new search zone west of Australia, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority announced.

Search aircraft began flying again out of Perth, Australia, on Saturday morning, beginning with a Chinese Ilyushin IL-76 and an Australian P-3 Orion, said the safety authority, which is coordinating the effort. Airplanes from Japan and New Zealand are also part of the day's search effort.

Six ships were expected to reach the search area on Saturday, beginning with China's Haixun 01, the safety authority said.
