Witches Winifred, Sarah and Mary will again bring chaos and mischief to the world in the upcoming “Hocus Pocus 3.”
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters in the movie, which is in early development at Disney Live Action Studios, TODAY.com has learned. Deadline first reported the news of the third installment and the possibility that the film will have a theatrical distribution following “Hocus Pocus 2.” The 2022 sequel, also starring Midler, Parker and Najimy, was released on Disney+.
The sisters first wreaked havoc on Salem residents in the original 1993 flick, which has since become a beloved Halloween classic. The movie followed a teenager who accidentally awakened and freed a coven of evil witches who lay dormant in an abandoned house. Nearly 30 years later, another group of naive teenagers brought the witches to life once more.
Fans were delighted to see the trio together again in 2022, and last year the stars gave them hope that another installment was on the way.
In July 2025, Parker appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” and revealed that the cast was in talks for “Hocus Pocus 3.”
“No more developments other than we would like to do it,” she said when responding to a fan’s question about the threequel’s status. “We’ve been having some conversations.”
Then a few months later in October 2025, just in time for Halloween, Midler also stopped by Andy Cohen’s talk show and discussed a third film, confirming that a script has already been written thanks to the success of the sequel.
She said “Hocus Pocus 2” amassed “billions of watches” on the streaming platform. “Billions, I’d never heard that number before,” she added.
When asked about the next movie, she said, “They sent a script and a lot of it was brilliant. So I got very excited. And now we’re sort of, like, trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost.”
She said “all those logistical things” were still being decided.
As for Najimy, she gave fans hope that they will see “Hocus Pocus 3” soon when she posted a picture of her Halloween costume on Instagram in October 2025. Najimy dressed as a witch in an ensemble that Mary would surely approve of, donning her twisted wig.
In the comments, the Disney+ official account replied, “Happy Halloween to our Mary Sanderson.”
Midler, Parker and Najimy have yet to comment on the latest news about their next team up.
