McDonald's to sell organic coffee in Northeast

McDonald’s Corp. will sell a brand of Fair Trade Certified and organic coffee in more than 650 stores in the U.S. Northeast as demand picks up for socially conscious brew, the company said on Thursday.

Fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s Corp. will sell a brand of Fair Trade Certified and organic coffee in more than 650 stores in the U.S. Northeast as demand picks up for socially conscious brew, the company said on Thursday.

McDonald’s, a leading foodservice provider in the United States, has established a partnership with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. and Newman’s Own Organics Blend coffee.

The new blend, made from Fair Trade Certified and organic specialty coffees, will be sold in restaurants in Massachussetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Albany, N.Y., from Nov. 1, the company said.

The Fair Trade Certified label guarantees that farmers and workers, mainly in developing countries, receive a fair price for their product. Most Fair Trade Certified coffee, tea and chocolate in the United States is also certified organic and shade grown.
