XM to extend radio service online

XM is taking its satellite radio service online, with a commercial-free service launching in early October.

XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. said Wednesday it is launching a commercial-free online music service in early October called XM Radio Online.

The satellite radio company said it is launching the service for $7.99 per month with existing XM customers able to sign up for $3.99 per month.

To promote the launch, XM said purchasers of Dell Inc.'s Inspiron notebooks and Dimension desktop computers will get a free 30-day trial of the service beginning in mid-October, XM said.

The service and free trial for U.S. customers will be marketed through promotions including Dell catalogs as well as online advertising.
