A 14-year-old girl who was struck in the neck by a bullet intended for another girl died Thursday.
Friends of Anisha Burden say the teen collapsed in the driveway after several shots were fired Tuesday night during a fight outside a house between two groups of young women.
She died at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Anisha wasn't involved in the dispute but was standing near another teenager, LaQuita Moore, who was the intended target, a police detective said.
Moore lives at the east Nashville house where the shooting occurred.
"I want to know what this fight was all about, and I want justice to be done," said Kenneth Frierson, Moore's father. "An innocent girl lost her life right here in my front yard."
Nashville police were looking for 20-year-old Antoinette Lanae Hall in connection with the shooting. Hall's prior arrests include aggravated robbery, gambling and aggravated assault, according to police records.
Detective David Achord said he believes a feud had simmered between the two groups because one girl in each had previously dated the same boy.
Anisha had nothing to do with the dispute, he said.
Before the shooting, he said, Hall and her group were driving by the house, spitting at several girls standing in front of the house and calling them names.
Witnesses said Moore stood on top of a car and began waving her arms, daring the other girls to come and get her.
Achord said someone fired at least three shots from a semiautomatic handgun, intending to hit Moore.
Instead, Anisha was struck as she stood in the driveway. The girl lived about four miles from where she was shot.
Frierson and other witnesses said several children also were playing in the yard at the time of the shooting.
"This hurts, it really hurts," said Tommie Herron, a family friend who said he was at the house during the shooting. "When I heard the shots, I ducked down, and when I stood up she was on the ground. Now that innocent girl is dead."
