Palin rips ‘Time’ as irrelevant for picking Obama as ‘Person of the Year’

When it comes to Time magazine's "Person of the Year" franchise, Sarah Palin echoed Groucho Marx.

When it comes to Time magazine's "Person of the Year" franchise, Sarah Palin echoed Groucho Marx.

It’s not surprising that Sarah Palin  wouldn’t love Time magazine’s selection of President Obama for 2012’s Person of the Year. But she bashed the magazine less for its choice than its pointlessness.

“I think there’s some irrelevancy there, to tell you the truth,” Palin told Fox News on Wednesday night. “Consider their list of the most influential people in the country and in the world, some who have made that list–yours truly. That ought to tell you something right there.”

Palin was a Person of the Year runner-up in 2008. In this rare moment of  self-deprecation, the former governor and vice-presidential candidate seemed to pay homage to one of the 20th century’s comedy masters. A headline on New York Magazine’s Daily Intel blog reads, “Sarah Palin Is Groucho Marx Now.” It turns out Palin’s comment is similar to a signature Groucho Marx-ism: “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.”
