Early ride on Seattle's Great Wheel

Seattle's awaited Great Wheel opens to the public Friday, June 29 - and KING 5 got a sneak peak.

Seattle's awaited Great Wheel opens to the public Friday, June 29 - and KING 5 got a sneak peak.

KING 5 photojournalist Ken Jones rode the Great Wheel Wednesday, snapping shots of the city's newest attraction and the view from the wheel's apex some 200 feet above the water.

"It was extremely smooth, extremely steady a really nice ride - just spectacular views of Seattle that you've never seen before," said Jones.

Each gondola on the Great Wheel seats between 6 and 8 people and can be used year round because they have both air conditioning and heating. A number of VIP gondolas include glass bottoms, so riders can watch the view beneath their feet.

Each ride includes 4 to 5 revolutions around the wheel. The price of admission for Seattle's newest attraction: $13.

Viewers have been sending great photos of the Seattle skyline with the addition of the Great Wheel. Post your photos on our Facebook page or upload them on our Your News page. We'll add them to our gallery.
