Dreyer's buys Haagen-Dazs Shoppe unit

Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Holdings, Inc. said on Wednesday its subsidiary has purchased the U.S. Haagen-Dazs ice cream shop franchise business from General Mills, Inc.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream Holdings Inc. said on Wednesday a subsidiary has purchased the U.S. Haagen-Dazs ice cream shop franchise.

Dreyer’s is buying the franchise from General Mills Inc. and will now handle all of the manufacturing and marketing of Haagen-Dazs ice cream in the United States.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Haagen-Dazs Shoppe Co. Inc., based in Minneapolis, has 236 franchises across the United States.

Dreyer’s obtained a license for the Haagen-Dazs brand in the United States when its predecessor company was bought by Nestle SA in June.

Brands of frozen dessert products made and distributed by Dreyer’s in the United States include Nestle Drumstick and Butterfinger. The company also makes and distributes ice cream under the Dreyer’s and Edy’s names throughout the United States.
