The perfect golfing weather Monday is also good for raising money for military families.
About 160 veterans took part in "Tee it up for the troops" at mount Hawley and Arrowhead Country Clubs.
Their golf round was free. Another 260 regular golfers paid to participate.
It started as an idea for a golf tournament to benefit wounded GIs and grew from there.
"More than anything, all the volunteers out there. It takes a lot to put all this together, and I think the community is definitely behind the vets. That's important," said Dorian Mosack, an Iraq/Afghan Veteran.
"I think this is really great. We came down from Great Lakes, about three hours from here. We appreciate them doing this for us," said Sgt. Glen Garrett, USMC.
Organizers had hoped to raise fifty–thousand dollars for veterans and their families, but over 150–thousand had been pledged before the event was over, and more was expected.
