Indiana Receives Millions Of Dollars For Affordable Housing Projects

Millions of federal dollars are coming to Indiana to help build affordable housing projects across the state.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Millions of federal dollars are coming to Indiana to help build affordable housing projects across the state.

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman broke the news in Fort Wayne Monday afternoon..

"All these projects meet our goals of creating jobs, doing it quickly and leaving a lasting impact on the state," said Skillman.

State officials will receive $164 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's low-income housing program.

Skillman also announced that $5.6 million will be awarded to Keller Development, Inc., so the company can proceed with construction on Edward Estates.

The development consists of 60 apartment units for low to moderate income families. The community will feature picnic facilities, a community center health and wellness center and a nature preserve.

Edward Estates, located along Huguenard Road, is one of eight affordable housing projects planned around the state that are funded by stimulus dollars.
