A four-alarm fire that damaged seven warehouses in an industrial area of San Francisco's Bayview District on Sunday injured one firefighter and one police officer, fire spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge said. The fire was reported at about 10:50 a.m. Sunday at 1526 Wallace Ave., and spread to three other buildings on Wallace Avenue and three on Van Dyke Avenue.
Talmadge said the blaze started in a furniture refurbishing company along an industrial avenue that is also home to a roofing company and the Golden Gate Woodturning Co. Marco Castillo, the owner of the wood shop, said that there were some areas inside the warehouse that firefighters were having difficulty accessing today.
The fire has been contained, but still had not been controlled as of 10:45 a.m. today.
A firefighter and police officer were transported to a hospital after suffering minor injuries but have since been released, Talmadge said.
Marijuana was found growing in one of the buildings, and police Sgt. Wilfred Williams said the Police Department's narcotics unit is investigating the find.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
