Back to school means back to 20 mph

YAKIMA, Wash. - Many families are preparing to send students back to school this week, which means when they get on the road they will need to remember to slow down.

The speed limit in most areas will be 20 miles per hour. Traffic violations double in a school zone. Tickets could run $189 or more so the city of Yakima recommends familes give themselves enough time in the morning.

"There in a rush, they may be running late with their kids. We just want to make sure that they, you know take a little bit of care, be patient with each other," said Joe Rosenlund, a traffic engineer for the city.

Different school districts will be starting throughout the week and into the next. So keep in mind even if one part of town hasn't started, another area may have and is now a school zone.
