Police identify victim in fatal northeast side shooting

Indianapolis - Police have identified a man killed in a shooting overnight.

Indianapolis - Police have identified a man killed in a shooting overnight.

It happened on the northeast side on Station Street. Police say William Jenkins, 34, was killed.

An officer on patrol drove by the shooting scene and saw two shooting victims in the front yard of a home.

Joshua Johnson, 20, was hit in the leg. He's now in stable condition at Methodist Hospital.

Police say the nature of the shooting makes the incident more dangerous.

"In a distance like this, somebody firing a handgun, or whatever weapon they were using, those shots often miss. They go into homes. They can hit into some people. So we need to get this individual off the street and into jail right now," said IMPD Sgt. Matt Mount.

Detectives are searching for leads. Police do not know if the shooter was in a car or on foot and are asking anyone with information to contact the IMPD Homicide or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
