Greenwood teen killed, four injured in crash

Indianapolis - A teenager was killed and four others were injured in a crash on the south side of downtown Saturday night.

A 2001 Pontiac being driven by a 17-year-old Greenwood boy was north bound on Madison Avenue when it appears he lost control and crossed over the median into the southbound lanes where the car was t-boned by an SUV.

A 17-year-old female from Greenwood, who was riding in the backseat of the Pontiac, was also ejected and suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Wishard Hospital where she died from her injuries around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the SUV, 58-year-old Maureen Marsico of Indianapolis, was wearing a safety belt, but suffered neck and chest pain and was transported to Wishard Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Pontiac was wearing his safety belt and was transported to Wishard Hospital in stable condition complaining of shoulder pain. The front seat passenger, identified as 17-year-old Ashely Shinnamon, was wearing a seat belt but was trapped in the car. She suffered serious injuries and was later transported to Wishard where she is listed in stable condition.

The other passenger in the back seat, 17-year-old Christopher Diaz, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries. He was transported to Wishard Hospital and is listed in grave condition.

Police say alcohol does not seem to be a factor at this time. The accident is still under investigation.
