CANYONVILLE, Ore. (AP) - The douglas county sheriff's office says one person, believed to be the pilot of a single engine plane is dead. It happened near Canyonville. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the plane crashed into a hillside in Southern Douglas County about 9 a.m. Sunday. The spokesman, Allen Kenitzer, says witnesses reported the plane's single engine sputtered before it crashed. deputies say the pilot was the only one aboard. The crash also sparked a wildfire which as of Sunday afternoon was still burning on the hillside.
