Congratulations to Conor Doherty of Somerville, Mass., who submitted a stunning image of Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, Calif. Doherty’s photo generated the most votes in this week’s “It’s A Snap!” contest.
Doherty was driving down Route 1 from San Jose to Los Angeles back in May. He heard about Pfeiffer Beach and decided to check it out. He drove down a “dirt road in the middle of nowhere“ before arriving at the amazing beach. “Pretty much everywhere is a photograph,” he said.
Doherty said he took the image on a 30-second exposure at about 4:30 in the morning. Two waves rolled in during the process, which gave the photo its misty effect.
“Pfeiffer Beach is a beautiful, unspoiled beach that’s popular with locals, somewhat unknown among tourists and well worth your time,” according to a profile on About.com.
While Pfeiffer Beach is family-friendly, beachgoers should beware of high winds. “If you try to walk in it, you'll end up with sand grains in places you can't imagine,” the profile adds.
