Suspicious Package Prompts Cruise Terminal Evacuation

A suspicious package found on board a ship prompts officials to evacuate the Galveston cruise ship terminal, officials tell KPRC Local 2.

The Galveston cruise ship terminal was evacuated after a suspicious package was found on a ship on Thursday morning, officials told KPRC Local 2. U.S. Coast Guard and FBI officials said a K9 unit found the suspicious package on Carnival's Ecstasy ship at terminal 16 at about 8:30 a.m.

Detectives said the suspicious item ended up being a computer printer. Crews destroyed it as a precaution.

The passengers and crew, who were returning from a five-day Caribbean cruise, were kept on the ship during the investigation, officials said.

Investigators closed the port from Pelican Island to the Galveston Yacht Basin, which has since reopened.

Carnival officials said the ship is scheduled to depart for another voyage Thursday afternoon.
