GRAND RAPIDS -- Dr. Robert Stokes, a Grand Rapids dermatologist who was convicted of defrauding insurance companies, is facing a handful of lawsuits from former patients who claim malpractice.

At least five malpractice lawsuits have been filed against Stokes, a resident of East Grand Rapids.

While exact details of the suits are unknown, a number of patients have come forward complaining of botched procedures that left large scars and other injuries.

Stokes was convicted of fraud last month in federal court. He is no longer practicing and his medical license is under review.
