A fast moving storm caused headaches for motorists in the Sierra and portions of northern Nevada on Tuesday.
Some Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts reported up to 2 feet of snow at the higher elevations from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday.
Chains or snow tires were required on most mountain highways, including Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and U.S. 50 over Echo Summit.
In the Reno area, early morning road conditions varied depending on location.
North valley areas were particularly icy, and officers reported numerous spinouts but not major accidents, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
I-80 east was also slippery east of Sparks to Fernley, and farther east around Carlin.
Forecasters said bands of snow or rain were possible throughout the day in western Nevada, but skies were expected to clear by Wednesday and return to more spring-like conditions by the weekend.
Northeast Nevada including most of Elko was under a winter storm warning through Wednesday morning.
