A spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Agriculture says rat poison was found in tainted pet food that killed several animals and sparked a nationwide recall.
The manufacturer recalled millions of cans and pouches of dog and cat food after learning several animals died after their owners say they ate the food.
One of the plants which manufactured wet foods for a variety of brands is shutting down. The manufacturer says they will close a plant in Kansas for three days. A company spokesperson says the shutdown is a result of the nationwide recall.
